Tuesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up seven points at 16,072, the NASDAQ finished up two points at 3994 and the S&P 500 ended the day down two points at 1802.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down one point at 6693.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 32 pips at $1.6187, EUR/USD is up 13 pips at $1.3555 and USD/JPY is down 22 pips at ¥101.45. Brent crude is down 22 cents at $110.65 and gold is trading at $1255, up $2.

Stocks: The mortgage and personal finance provider Paragon Group announced a 10.4% rise in annual pre-tax profits.

The day ahead: The UK inflation report hearing takes place at 10am today. In the US, building permits are due for release at 1.30pm, followed by the Case-Shiller house price index at 2pm and consumer confidence at 3pm.
