What is MCP and what does it do?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration that gives ChatGPT and Claude (coming soon) secure, read-only access to your IG account. Once connected, you can ask your AI about your open positions, portfolio value, account history, and watchlists — all in natural language, without leaving your chat window.
Can the AI place trades or modify my account?
No. IG’s MCP app is strictly read-only. Your AI can view your account data but cannot place trades, amend orders, change settings, or take any action on your account. Only you can do that, directly through IG.
Is my account data secure?
Yes. The connection uses OAuth — the same industry-standard authentication used by banking and financial apps worldwide. Your IG username and password are never shared with ChatGPT or Claude (coming soon). You can revoke access at any time from your account settings. View our Privacy Policy
Do I need to be an existing IG client?
You need an CFD account with IG Trading to connect. If you don't have one, you can open a live account at ig.com/au.
Which AI platforms are supported?
Currently available for ChatGPT, with Claude coming soon. Support for additional AI platforms is on the roadmap — check ig.com/au for the latest updates.
What account data can the AI access?
Once connected, your AI can access: live bid/ask prices for any instrument, your open positions and working orders, market details and margin requirements, client sentiment data (% long vs short), historical price data (OHLC candlesticks), your account activity log, financial transaction history, your saved watchlists, and calculated portfolio metrics. It cannot access payment details, personal identity documents, or any information outside your trading account.
How do I disconnect IG?
You can disconnect at any time. In ChatGPT, remove IG from your connected apps. In Claude, disconnect it from your tools settings.
