Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 111 points at 15,680, the NASDAQ finished up 12 points at 3952 and the S&P 500 ended the day up nine points at 1771.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 30 points at 6804.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down two pips at $1.6044, EUR/USD is down two pips at $1.3745 and USD/JPY is up five pips at ¥98.27. Brent crude is up 22 cents at $109.02 and gold is trading at $1346, up $2.

Stocks: Barclays reported a 196% increase in nine-month pre-tax profits. Next announced a 4.3% rise in third-quarter sales, while Pearson has seen a 4% rise in nine-month sales.

The day ahead: Eurozone PMI is due out at 9.10am. In the US, ADP employment will be released at 12.15pm, followed by inflation at 12.30pm. The Federal Reserve will make an announcement at 6pm.
