Thursday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 113 points at 15,337, the NASDAQ finished down 15 points at 3669 and the S&P 500 closed down eight points at 1685.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 20 points at 6567.

FX and commoditiesGBP/USD is up 27 pips at $1.5528, EUR/USD is up 26 pips at $1.3282 and USD/JPY is down 29 pips at Y97.84. Oil - Brent Crude is up 19 cents at $109.42 and gold is trading at $1338, up $1.

Stocks: Gaming firm Rank Group has announced a 1% decline in annual pre-tax profit.

The day ahead: UK retail sales are due at 9.30am. In the US, inflation, jobless claims and Empire State manufacturing are released at 1.30pm, followed by industrial production at 2.15pm and the Philadelphia Fed manufacturing index at 3pm (all London times).
