Friday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 136 points at 14,996, the NASDAQ finished down 40 points at 3774 and the S&P 500 ended the day down 15 points at 1678.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 11 points at 6438.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down 22 pips at $1.6134, EUR/USD is up two pips at $1.3621 and USD/JPY is down 21 pips at ¥97.05. Brent crude is down 10 cents at $103.19 and gold is trading at $1318, up $2.

Stocks: Floor covering and bed retailer Carpetright warned that its full-year profits would be ‘significantly’ below previous estimates.

The day ahead: Eurozone PPI will be announced at 10am. In the US, William Dudley and Jeremy Stein of the Federal Reserve will make announcements at 2.15pm and 2.30pm respectively.
