Tuesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 44 points at 16,425, the NASDAQ finished down 18 points at 4113 and the S&P 500 ended the day down four points at 1826.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down eight points at 6721.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down eight pips at $1.6397, EUR/USD is down six pips at $1.3623 and USD/JPY is up 15 pips at ¥104.37. Brent crude is up 53 cents at $107.36 and gold is trading at $1239, up $1.

Stocks: Tile and flooring retailer Topps Tiles announced a 9.3% increase in 13-week sales.

The day ahead: Eurozone CPI is due to be released at 10am. In the US, trade balance will be announced at 1.30pm, followed by economic optimism at 3pm.
