Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down nine points at 15,967, the NASDAQ finished up 17 points at 3931 and the S&P 500 ended the day down six points at 1791.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 13 points at 6685.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 13 pips at $1.6133, EUR/USD is down seven pips at $1.3533 and USD/JPY is down three pips at ¥100.11. Brent crude is up 22 cents at $107.79 and gold is trading at $1272, down $4.

Stocks: Engineering and construction services provider Kentz has won a $190 million contract with Qatar Petroleum.

The day ahead: The Bank of England asset purchase facility and official bank rate votes are at 9.30am, and Spencer Dale of the Bank of England is due to speak at 10.20am. In the US, retail sales and CPI are due for release at 1.30pm, followed by existing home sales and business inventories at 3pm.
