Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 23 points at 14,833, the NASDAQ finished up 22 points at 3612 and the S&P 500 ended the day up seven points at 1639.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 20 points at 6448.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 13 pips at $1.5573, EUR/USD is up four pips at $1.3175 and USD/JPY is up two pips at ¥99.58. Brent crude is down 32 cents at $115.39 and gold is trading at $1409, down $3.

Stocks: Hargreaves Lansdown reported a 28% increase in full-year pre-tax profits. Ashtead Group announced a 24% increase in first-quarter revenue.

The day ahead: UK services PMI is due at 9.30am, followed by eurozone retail sales and GDP at 10am. In the US, trade balance is due out at 1.30pm, followed by IBD economic optimism at 3pm.
