Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones  closed down 170 points at 14,776, the NASDAQ finished down 79 points at 3578 and the S&P 500 closed down 26 points at 1630.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 27 points at 6414.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down 31 pips at $1.5516, EUR/USD is down 15 pips at $1.3378 and USD/JPY is up 36 pips at Y97.41. Oil - Brent Crude is up 142 cents at $115.72 and gold is trading at $1424, up $9.

Stocks: 888 Holdings has announced a 7% rise in first-half revenue, while Chemring reported a 13.5% drop in quarterly revenue.

The day ahead: UK realised sales are due at 11am, followed by a statement from Mark Carney at 1.45pm. In the US, pending home sales are announced at 3pm. (All London times.)
