In investments, market data is the data reported on various assets and financial instruments by trading companies and exchanges.

Market data is used by traders to assess the worth of various assests, as well as to strategise on how best to make a profit. It usually comprises the price of a financial instrument, as well as trading volume.

The real-time delivery of market data is important in order for traders to make timely, informed decisions, and historical data is key to planning future trades. In equities, fundamentals can also be included with market data to provide a clearer picture of a particular share.
