What is commodities trading?
Speculate on the price of raw physical assets, such as gold, silver, oil, wheat and sugar with leveraged CFDs and spread bets. You won’t take ownership of the underlying asset and, when markets move, you can go long or short. Just remember that, unlike investing in commodities, your profit or loss isn’t capped to the physical asset’s value. And, with leverage, profits or losses can far outweigh the amount paid to open a position.

Undated spot commodities vs commodity futures
Trade commodities at our undated ‘spot’ or futures prices – both available through spread betting and CFD trading. Your choice will depend on how long you intend to hold your position for.
Undated commodity markets
Take a position on the current value of a commodity with our proprietary ‘spot’ market.
- Positions cost less to open, but will incur a fee if left open overnight
- Speculate on the underlying market price with no fixed expiries

The spread is our charge for executing your trade. It’s the difference between the buy and sell price, which we wrap around the underlying market price.

The charge will vary depending on whether you trade futures or our undated contracts. Futures have a wider spread, but no overnight funding charges – so are more cost-effective for longer-term trades. Learn more about our spreads
Spread bets and CFDs are both leveraged, which means you can gain full exposure for the fraction of the cost. The deposit you pay to open a position is called margin. Although it’s not an additional cost to you, it can make a big difference to the affordability of your trade.
Remember, leverage can magnify your losses, as well as magnify any profits.
