What's in Kamala Harris's investment portfolio?
Since her presidential candidacy, Kamala Harris’s investments have been on the minds of ordinary citizens and analysts. We’ve looked at her most recent financial disclosure document and summarised what’s in her portfolio.
Kamala Harris is currently the Democratic party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections and is the present Vice President of the US. In the past, she’s served as the District Attorney of San Francisco and the Attorney General of California.
Her past investments included mainly property; for example, she owned and sold a condo in Washington DC in 2021 for $1,85 million.
Her net worth rose when she married Douglas Emhoff in 2014, whom, at the time, was bringing in an estimated $1 million per year as an attorney for a major law firm. It’s interesting to note that Emhoff’s investments largely consisted of individual shares (at least 30), which he sold when Harris announced she’d run for the US senate.1 Now, his portfolio is largely made up of ETFs and property, rather than individual stocks.
Prior to her marriage, her income mainly came from her roles as a public servant. She earned $263,000 annually in 2010, whereafter her salary decreased to below $160,000 per year in 2011, 2012 and 2013 when she took up her attorney general role.1 She currently earns $218,000 as Vice President.2
How much is Kamala Harris worth?
Kamala Harris is worth between an estimated $4.51 million and $5.8 million according to our calculations. These figures come after she released her financial disclosure in July 2024, which is a legal requirement for those running for office.
Her husband is worth between an estimated $4 million and $6.24 million.
The bulk of their wealth comes from their joint ownership of a property in Brentwood, California, which is worth roughly $5 million.3
However, they also have investments in various ETFs, like the Vanguard Growth Index Fund ETF, Vanguard Value Index Fund ETF and iShares Biotechnology ETF.
It’s important to note that presidential candidates aren’t compelled to provide exact figures for their investments, so those in this article are based on ranges. We’ve also split her and Emhoff’s net worths, although they’re usually counted together.

The risk appetite of Harris’s portfolio is on the lower end as her investments are conservative. Although her range of instruments isn’t wide, she has a diverse variety of markets in the funds she’s invested in. This diversity also gives her portfolio a lower risk profile.
Investing is generally considered to be ‘safer’ than trading (through spread betting and CFDs), where you use leverage to take a position on a market.
However, there is always risk when investing, and there’s no guarantee you’ll get as much or more out than you put in.
How does Harris's portfolio compare to Donald Trump's?
Donald Trump’s portfolio is much larger than Harris’s and in contrast he’s heavily invested in shares, real estate, clubs and resorts, cash reserves and more. His portfolio has a higher risk-reward ratio than Harris’s, as he’s invested in individual stocks, the majority of which aren’t stable; nearly 75% of his portfolio is made up of shares in Trump Media & Technology Group.

However, it's crucial to remember that all investments carry risk, and the value of your portfolio can fluctuate. Past performance is no indicator of future returns.
For traders seeking higher potential returns and willing to accept greater risks, we also offer leveraged trading options such as spread betting and CFD trading. These products allow you to trade using borrowed funds, which can amplify both gains and losses.
If you choose to use leveraged products, it's vital to understand the associated risks and implement robust risk management strategies.
