UK factory output at highest rate on record
The Confederation of British Industry, the CBI, says its index of industrial output has risen to the highest reading on record since it started measuring output back in 1975.
The orders balance - the difference between the proportion of employers who say order levels are above or below normal - hit a reading of +19 in June, up from 17 in May and a point up on the forecast. This was the highest reading since 1988, in Margaret Thatcher’s last period as Prime Minister.
