Markets move on from Covid-19 shock, but face key risks ahead
While the rollercoaster of the first half of the year is behind us, markets face a number of hurdles in the second half of the year.
Investors witnessed one of the fastest declines and quickest rebounds in history in February and March this year. The sudden appearance of a new virus prompted a dramatic repricing in risk assets, with all markets affected. An oil price war added to the drama, as key producers attempted to grab market share as demand fell off a cliff due to the coronavirus.
As we look ahead to the rest of the year, investors will have to deal with the continued presence of Covid-19, but also the resurgence of trade wars, ongoing weakness in the global economy, Brexit negotiations and a US presidential election.
