FTSE 100 hits one-year high and DAX and S&P 500 briefly reach new peaks
Indices have started the week on the right note for bulls, but some weakness is creeping in after a strong start.
FTSE 100
Last week’s bounce carried the FTSE 100 through 7100 and then on to 7167, with a steady rally prevailing through the past month. Intraday dips have been firmly bought, with no sign of a reversal that would bring this to an end as yet. A renewed push higher heads to 7230, and then on to 7440.
DAX
The index begins the week at a new record high, showing no signs of either slowing down or reversing. Short-term weakness in the past three weeks found buyers at 15,500 and 15,350, so these are the levels that need to be broken to the downside to clear the way for more losses. But for now the uptrend is still firmly in place.
S&P 500
The S&P 500 sits at a new peak as the week gets underway, with a new leg higher looking likely now that the previous peak has been surpassed. Rising trendline support from early May continues to hold back any near-term downside for the time being.
