FTSE 100 falls back while DAX and S&P 500 hold firm
The FTSE 100 is dropping back in the first hours of the new trading week, but the DAX and S&P 500 are looking stronger.
FTSE 100 drops back in early trading
The FTSE 100 has continued to drop back from the highs seen on Thursday, with some initial trendline support possible as the price nears trendline support from the late March low. Below this the price heads towards 6775 and then the 50-day SMA at 6692. A move back above 6957 would mark a break to the upside.
DAX quiet after recent gains
After the record peak a week ago the index has mostly drifted sideways, although early trading points towards a possible resumption of the move higher that will increase expectations of a run towards 15,500. The price has held 15,150 in recent sessions, so a drop below here could provide an indication of some near-term weakness.
S&P 500 on a high after recent gains
The Dow begins the new week close to where the old one finished: at a record high. April options expiry week tends to see further bullish momentum so additional gains into Friday look possible, even after the strong start to the month so far. As yet there is little in the way of bearish price action, although a reversal below 4000 would mark a likely bigger pullback.
