Friday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 188 points at 15,628, the NASDAQ finished up 45 points at 4057 and the S&P 500 ended the day up 22 points at 1773.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up six points at 6564.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 26 pips at $1.6347, EUR/USD is down five pips at $1.3583 and USD/JPY is down four pips at ¥102.02. Brent crude is down ten cents at $107.16 and gold is trading at $1262, up $4.

Stocks: Real estate investment trust British Land increased its stake in Hercules Unit Trust by £66.8 million.

The day ahead: UK manufacturing production and industrial production are due at 9.30am, while German industrial production is to be announced at 11am. In the US, non-farm payrolls and unemployment will be released at 1.30pm.
