The positive start of the European trading session which seemed to be a recovery from yesterday’s losses didn’t last for long.  Again it’s the basic resources sectors to be blame, with Anglo American, Fresnillo, and Glencore leading the decliners in FTSE 100. The sector that became front and center of investor’s mind as commodity prices dropped at lowest levels since 2009 likely to continue delivering negative news such as suspending dividend payments, reducing capital spending, and cutting jobs.

However today it is not commodities dragging the stocks, as oil and metal prices are enjoying a relief rally with WTI being supported by a surprise 1.9 million-barrel fall in U.S. crude inventories according to American Petroleum Institute and traders are awaiting confirmation from EIA official figures due today.

On the European economic calendar only the German trade data worth noting. Exports and imports in Europe’s largest economy fell more than expected in October as emerging markets slowdown continued to drag. Exports fell 1.2% versus 0.5% expected and imports dropped 3.4% to record the biggest fall since early 2012.

Heading into the U.S. opening bell, traders are likely to keep an eye on Dow and Dupont after reports indicated another mega merger deal could be announced on Thursday to add the $4.35 trillion deals so far this year, but such a merger would require long time to get regulatory approvals.
