MetaTrader definition

MetaTrader has a particular significance in relation to IG's platform. Here, we define MetaTrader in general investing and explain what it means to you when trading with IG.

MetaTrader is an electronic trading platform which is popular among traders around the world.

It is used to trade on forex, major indices, and commodity markets. Like most online trading platforms, it allows traders to view charts, stream live prices and place orders with their broker.

The most commonly used version on MetaTrader is currently MetaTrader 4 (MT4), although MetaTrader 5 was released in 2010. Both platforms include apps for mobile devices as well as Windows.
