Bank earnings didn’t get much better with Citigroup’s set, missing revenue and earnings expectations. Again fixed income trading was the culprit, while the bank had to endure yet more legal charges in the period. Revenue drops were larger than anticipated, prompting a sharp drop in the share price, with encouraging comments about progress on market share and other targets not being enough to revive any optimistic sentiment. We still await further news on capital return, having hoped to see this development at some point in 2014.
