Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 67 points at 16,351, the NASDAQ finished down 27 points at 4307 and the S&P 500 ended the day down nine points at 1877.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 40 points at 6640.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down two pips at $1.6614, EUR/USD is down eight pips at $1.3849 and USD/JPY is down seven pips at ¥103.24. Brent crude is down 70 cents at $107.17 and gold is trading at $1355, up $6.

Stocks: Online food retailer Ocado has reported a 22% increase in its first-quarter sales. The insurance and financial services company Prudential has announced a 17% increase in its full-year operating profit. Security services company G4S reported a 2.8% increase in its full-year operating profit. The Pets at Home IPO price was 245p, and the Poundland IPO price was 300p.

The day ahead: The eurozone industrial production report is expected at 10am.

In the US, the US Treasury secretary Jack Lew will make an announcement at 6pm.
