Tuesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 103 points at 16,207, the NASDAQ finished up 29 points at 4292 and the S&P 500 ended the day up 11 points at 1847.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 26 points at 6839.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 23 pips at $1.6681, EUR/USD is up 19 pips at $1.3753 and USD/JPY is down 23 pips at ¥102.27. Brent crude is down 40 cents at $110.26 and gold is trading at $1336, down $1.

Stocks: British housebuilding company Persimmon reported a 21% rise in its full-year revenue. British betting company Ladbrokes revealed a 32% drop in its annual profits. Building materials company CRH posted a 2% decline in like-for-like sales.

The day ahead: UK mortgage approvals figures are expected at 9.30am, followed by realised sales at 11am. EU economic forecasts are due at 12.45pm. In the US, the Case-Schiller house price index will be released at 2pm, followed by the Conference Board consumer confidence and Richmond manufacturing index at 3pm. Daniel Tarullo of the Federal Reserve is due to speak at 3.10pm.
