Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 77 points at 16,008, the NASDAQ finished down 14 points at 4045 and the S&P 500 ended the day down five points at 1800.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 18 points at 6577.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 32 pips at $1.6388, EUR/USD is up 13 pips at $1.3555 and USD/JPY is up 16 pips at ¥103.11. Brent crude is up 28 cents at $94.13 and gold is trading at $1223, up $3.

Stocks: First-half revenue was down 6% for online betting and gaming operator Betfair, but rose 5.2% for pub group Greene King.

The day ahead: The UK construction report is due at 9.30am, followed by eurozone PPI at 10am. In the US, IBD economic optimism will be announced at 3pm.
