Friday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

The US markets were shut yesterday for Thanksgiving.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 14 points at 6668.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down 15 pips at $1.6331, EUR/USD is down six pips at $1.3601 and USD/JPY is down 11 pips at ¥102.21. Brent crude is down four cents at $110.90 and gold is trading at $1248, up $4.

Stocks: Mining heavyweight Rio Tinto announced that it has suspended production at its Gove alumina operation, as it is no longer financially viable.

The day ahead: UK net lending and mortgage approvals are due for release at 9am, and the eurozone CPI and unemployment rate will be announced at 10am. In the US, there are no major announcements due today.
