How to download and install MT4 on desktop (Windows and Mac)
Windows Installation
Setting up MT4 with IG:
1. Create a live IG account
Create your IG account if you don't already have one.
Note: If you already have an IG account, you can skip this step and proceed to step 2.
2. Visit your My IG dashboard
Log in to your IG account and navigate to your personal dashboard.
3. Click on 'add an account'
Find and click the 'add an account' button at the bottom right of the screen.
4. Select an MT4 account
Choose the MT4 option from the available account types.
Downloading and installing MT4:
5. Download the software
Once you've set up your MT4 account with IG, you'll be prompted to download the MT4 platform.
6. Run the installation
Start the download wizard and follow the on-screen prompts to finish installing MT4 on your Windows computer.
7. Launch and log in
Open the installed MT4 platform and log in with your MT4 credentials. Select the IG-LIVE2 server when logging in for the first time.
Mac Installation
Setting up MT4 with IG:
Create a live IG account
Create your IG account if you don't already have one.

5. Adjust your Mac security settings
Give consent for apps to be downloaded from identified developers. Go to your Mac's 'System Preferences > Security & Privacy' and select 'Allow apps to be downloaded from: App Store and identified developers'.
6. Download MT4 for Mac
Download MT4 directly for macOS without needing additional software like Boot Camp or Parallels.
7. Complete the installation
Open 'MetaTrader4.dmg' from your 'downloads' folder and drag the MT4 icon to your 'applications' folder.
8. Launch and log in
Go to your 'applications' folder, open the programme, and sign in with your IG account credentials. Select the IG-LIVE2 server when logging in.
How to download and install MT4 on mobile
iOS Installation
Getting started with MT4 on iOS:
1. Create a live IG account
Create an IG account if you don’t already have one.
2. Set up an MT4 account with IG
Log in to your IG account, click 'add an account' and select MT4.
3. Download the MT4 app
Open the App Store on your iOS device and search for "MetaTrader 4".
4. Install the official app
Download and install the app developed by MetaQuotes Software.
5. Launch and log in
Open the app and select "login to an existing account".
6. Connect to IG’s server
Search for "IG-LIVE2" or "IG Markets-Live 2" in the server list.
7. Enter your credentials
Use the MT4 login details provided by IG after creating your MT4 account.
Trading on MT4 for iOS:
8. Add IG markets
Go to the 'Quotes' tab and click the + icon to add symbols that end with .s (e.g., EUR/USD.s).
9. Select a market
Click on the market you want to trade.
10. Open a trade
Select 'trade', choose your position size, stops and limits.
11. Execute your trade
Decide whether to 'buy' or 'sell' and place your trade.

How do I log in to MT4 after installation?
After installing MT4, you'll need to enter your MT4 login credentials provided by IG when you created your MT4 account. Follow these steps:
Open the MT4 platform
In the login window, select "IG-LIVE2" from the server dropdown
Enter your MT4 ID (a 6-digit number provided by IG)
Enter your MT4 password (sent to your email)
Click "login"
If you've forgotten your password, you can reset it through your My IG dashboard.
Can I download MT4 without creating an IG account first?
No, you'll need to create an IG account first and then add an MT4 account within your IG dashboard. This process ensures your MT4 platform is properly configured to connect to our servers and access our exclusive features and add-ons.
