Tuesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up five points at 16,025, the NASDAQ finished up six points at 4068 and the S&P 500 ended the day up three points at 1808.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up six points at 6565.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down five pips at $1.6425, EUR/USD is up 10 pips at $1.3749 and USD/JPY is down 10 pips at ¥103.17. Brent crude is up 56 cents at $109.95 and gold is trading at $1244, up $4.

Stocks: Whitbread posted a 13.8% rise in 13 week sales until 28 November. 

The day ahead: UK manufacturing, trade balance and industrial production are due at 9.30am. Mario Draghi of the ECB is due to make a statement at 12pm. In the US, the small business index is due out at 12.30pm, followed by wholesale inventories at 3pm.
