Friday night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down  167 at 16,446, the NASDAQ finished down 28 points at 3565 and the S&P 500 ended the day down 17 point at 1870.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up two points at 6842.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up two pips at $1.6792, EUR/USD is up seven pips at $1.3716 and USD/JPY is down two pips at ¥101.57. Brent crude is up 14 cents at $109.19 and gold is trading at $1293, down $3.

Stocks: Intertek posted a 0.3% rise in quarterly revenue. Petrofac has won a $970 million contract in Algeria.

The day ahead: The eurozone trade balance is due to be released at 10am. In the US, we will see building permits and housing starts at 1.30pm, followed by University of Michigan consumer sentiment at 2.55pm.
