Thursday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 30 points at 15,963, the NASDAQ finished up ten points at 4201 and the S&P 500 ended the day down 0.5 points at 1819.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 20 points at 6655.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 25 pips at $1.6621, EUR/USD is up 33 pips at $1.3627 and USD/JPY is down 42 pips at ¥102.12. Brent crude is down 53 cents at $108.25 and gold is trading at $1287, down $3.

Stocks: Rolls-Royce Group reported a 23% increase in full-year pre-tax profits. Lloyds Banking Group revealed a 140% increase in full-year profits. Mining heavyweight Rio Tinto posted a 10% rise in full-year profits.

The day ahead: In the US, retail sales and jobless claims will be released at 1.30pm, followed by business inventories at 3pm.
