Friday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 109 points at 15,848, the NASDAQ finished up 71 points at 4123 and the S&P 500 ended the day up down 19 points at 1794.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down ten points at 6528.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down 28 pips at $1.6458, EUR/USD is down eight pips at $1.3547 and USD/JPY is down 27 pips at ¥102.47. Brent crude is down 33 cents at $107.60 and gold is trading at $1239, down $4.

Stocks: BT reported a 6% increase in third-quarter profits. Gaming-based entertainment company Rank revealed a 23% decline in first-half pre-tax profits.

The day ahead: Eurozone CPI and unemployment are due out at 10am. In the US, personal income and spending will be announced at 1.30pm. Chicago PMI is due for release at 2.45pm, followed by University of Michigan consumer confidence at 2.55pm.
