Friday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 17 points at 16,444, the NASDAQ finished down nine points at 4165 and the S&P 500 ended the day up one point at 1838.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 27 points at 6718.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down eight points at $1.6471, EUR/USD is down one point at $1.3608 and USD/JPY is up 15 points at ¥104.97. Brent crude is up nine cents at $106.43 and gold is trading at $1235, up $7.

Stocks: Athletic-inspired fashion and sportswear retailer JD Sports announced a 5.8% increase in like-for-like sales in the 42 weeks until 23 November.

The day ahead: UK manufacturing and industrial production is due for release at 9.30am, followed by eurozone GDP at 10am. In the US, the non-farm payrolls and unemployment rate will be announced at 1.30pm, followed by wholesale inventories at 3pm.
