Monday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 69 points at 15,615, the NASDAQ finished up two points at 3922 and the S&P 500 ended the day up five points at 1761.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 22 points at 6755.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 14 pips at $1.5940, EUR/USD is up nine pips at $1.3496 and USD/JPY is down four pips at ¥98.63. Brent crude is up 60 cents at $106.45 and gold is trading at $1313, down $1.

Stocks: HSBC will be reporting figures once the Hang Seng is closed. The UK banks are surrounded by a number of rumours over potential assets being sold off. On a similar vein, Morrisons is assessing the benefits of selling then leasing back a number of its stores in an effort to raise funds. Third-quarter figures for Weir Group are set to disappoint the markets, having been dragged lower by a number of mining projects in which the firm is involved.

The day ahead: A raft of manufacturing PMI figures for Spain, Italy and the EU will be followed by construction figures for the UK this morning. This afternoon we will see monthly factory orders out in the US, and a couple of FOMC members will also be speaking.
