Proof of identity

We are legally obliged to verify your identity - we will require a certified copy of a valid ID document (passport, identity card or Swiss residence permit) before we can open your account.

These are the 6 different ways to certify your documents:

Uploading your documents via our trading platform or app

Simply upload a photo or scan of your ID document, evidence of address and a photograph of yourself via our desktop trading platform or app. Just follow the prompt and instructions after logging in. Once your documents have been accepted, a bank transfer will be required to for the final activation of your account.

Certification via video conference with a member of our staff

This is the quickest and simplest way to validate your ID document. To use this service, please send us an email or call us on +41 (0) 22 888 10 42 to make an appointment. We will confirm a time convenient for you and the whole process should not take more than 10 minutes. Please note that this service is only available to clients who can provide a passport or an identity card which is machine-readable.

Certification through a member of staff of IG Bank or any other IG group company

If you apply for your account in person at our offices or at a trade fair or at one of our seminars, any member of staff of IG Bank S.A. will be able to certify that your ID document has been presented as the original.

The Yellow Identification service by Swiss Post (free service, only available in Switzerland)

  1. Please download the Yellow Identification bon
  2. Print the bon and present it at any post office branch, together with your chosen ID document
  3. An employee of the post office will verify the document and will generate a certified copy
  4. Send this certified copy to us at the address:

The “Rail Bon” service by the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) (free service, only available in Switzerland)

  1. Please download the Rail Bon
  2. Print the voucher and present it at any SBB Change or Western Union Complete counter with your chosen ID document
  3. An employee of the SBB will verify the document and will generate a certified copy
  4. Send this certified copy to us at the address:

Certification through a notary or any competent public authority

Any licensed notary or other public authority will also be able to certify that a photocopy is based on the original. Please post the certified copy of the ID document used to us at the address: New Accounts, IG Bank S.A., 42 Rue du Rhône, 1204 Geneva.
