This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 12 points at 6537.
FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down eight pips at $1.5988, EUR/USD is down seven pips at $1.3516 and USD/JPY is up 26 pips at ¥98.43. Brent crude is down 14 cents at $109.27 and gold is up $2.20 at $1285.
Stocks: There is a shortage of FTSE corporate news today but attention was never going to be directed here anyway, with the focus on US politicians.
The day ahead: UK unemployment figures and average earnings will be posted this morning, followed by the EU trade balance. All eyes however will be on US politicians as they continue to drag their feet over budget and debt issues.
