Microsoft Corp reports its fiscal first-quarter results after the US market closes on 28 October. The earnings calendar points to revenue of $90.63 billion and earnings per share of $4.73.

The focus will be on Azure, AI investment and forward guidance. Microsoft previously projected Azure growth of approximately 45% in constant currency and group revenue of $89.85–$90.95 billion. Planned capital expenditure exceeds $50 billion, including an effect from the reclassification of leases.

Revenue expectations therefore already sit in the upper half of management’s guidance range. A positive share price reaction may depend on Microsoft meeting those expectations while delivering a convincing outlook for growth, margins and AI monetisation.

Technical analysis: Pullback offers continuation potential

A strong impulsive advance in late July lifted Microsoft from below $400 towards $480. The stock subsequently formed a bullish rectangle between $477 and $517, before breaking above its upper boundary in late September.

The latest retreat towards former resistance at $516–$517 can currently be interpreted as a classic pullback. A potential bullish flag is also developing, although an upside breakout is still needed to confirm the continuation signal.

The rectangle’s height produces an initial objective near $558. If momentum persists, $604 remains a further trend-extension scenario. The rising 100-day EMA and 34-period RSI above 48.5 support the constructive backdrop.

A retreat below $516–$517 would weaken the breakout. Further down, $477 and $468 are the critical supports. Losing both could trigger a partial retracement of July’s rapid advance, opening a broader downside scenario towards $411.

Options market: Expected move of ±5.26%

The options market indicates an expected move of ±5.26%, or ±$28.02. From the $532.60 reference price, that implies an indicative range of $504.58–$560.62. The upper boundary is close to the $558 technical target, but the calculation provides no directional signal.

Microsoft analyst sentiment: Average price target near $610

The TipRanks consensus remains strongly positive: Of 36 ratings, 34 recommend buying and two recommend holding. The average 12-month price target is $610.52, implying 14.63% upside from the $532.60 reference price used.

Microsoft seasonality: Historically favourable autumn window

The seasonal analysis shows positive returns in 18 of 23 observations for 10 October to 7 November. That represents a 78.26% positive-return rate, with an average gain of 6.39%.

Much of this window has already elapsed. The historical average covers the entire period and should not be interpreted as the remaining upside potential.

Microsoft long and short scenarios

Scenario Confirmation required Potential objectives
Long Defence of $516–$517 and a confirmed breakout from the potential flag Initially $558; subsequently $604 if the trend continues
Short A confirmed break below $477 Initially $468; below that, $411

Conclusion: Microsoft’s technical structure remains constructive. A fresh advance requires the breakout area to hold and the results and guidance to support expectations. Earnings gaps can carry the price through the identified levels immediately.
