At a glance

Johnson & Johnson is testing key support between $245 and $251 ahead of earnings. A successful defence could open the way for a recovery towards $265. However, the short-term rising trendline has already broken. Below support, the rising 200-day EMA becomes the next important level to watch.

Expected release time Around 12:20 CEST, according to the earnings calendar
Earnings call 14:30 CEST

Higher full-year guidance sets the benchmark

Following Q2, Johnson & Johnson raised the midpoint of its 2026 revenue guidance to $101.1 billion and its adjusted earnings-per-share guidance midpoint to $11.68. Those higher targets provide an important benchmark for the upcoming report.

Investors will assess whether Innovative Medicine and MedTech can sustain the group’s growth. Alongside revenue and earnings, margins and full-year guidance deserve attention. Strong quarterly figures could lose some of their impact if management adopts a more cautious outlook.

Seasonality points to a historically favourable autumn window

The 25-year Seasonax study shows an average gain of 3.34% between 9 October and 18 November. Returns were positive in 20 of the 25 observations, a historical frequency of 80%. The median return was 3.36%.

This provides a favourable historical backdrop for a potential recovery. However, the pattern covers several weeks and does not predict the immediate share-price reaction to earnings.

Technical analysis: $245–$251 support comes into focus

The summer breakout above the former resistance area around $245–$251 opened the way for further gains. Subsequent pullbacks, particularly in July, established this zone as support. Although the advance continued, repeated long upper candle wicks around the highs pointed to increasing selling pressure.

The stock broke below its short-term rising trendline in early October. Horizontal support is now back in focus: the latest daily low shown on the chart, $251.17, almost touched the zone’s upper boundary. The displayed closing price is $254.78.

Holding the $245–$251 support area could allow a recovery towards $265. A sustained move above $273 would improve the technical picture further, although the previous highs around $278–$281 would remain the next resistance area.

Below horizontal support, the rising 200-day EMA at $240.80 provides another important line of defence for the broader uptrend. A sustained break beneath it would increase the risk of a deeper correction.

The RSI shows a slight stabilisation at the right edge of the chart. However, its displayed reading of 46.35 remains below the 48.5 threshold used in this analysis. Reclaiming that level would provide additional confirmation of improving upward momentum.

Long and short setups

Scenario Trigger and confirmation Targets Risk control
Long $245–$251 support holds, followed by a confirmed recovery above $255. RSI above 48.5 adds confirmation $265, followed by $273 Below the confirmed reversal low; a sustained break below $245 undermines the scenario
Short Daily close below $245, followed by a failed retest of the support area Initially $240–$241 at the 200-day EMA Above the retest high; a successful recovery into the zone weakens the scenario
