Gold price today: Downtrend puts $4,000 support at risk

Gold remains below its falling trendline as a potential bearish rectangle raises the risk of further losses. Support at $4,075 and the recovery threshold at $4,300 are the key levels to watch.

Gold is consolidating within a broader downtrend. A sustained recovery is needed to improve the technical outlook. A break below the rectangle’s lower boundary could expose $4,000, followed by the support zone between $3,927 and $3,823.

Gold price outlook: Falling 100-day EMA and weak RSI

Gold is trading at around $4,158 per troy ounce on Thursday morning. The downtrend established after its record high in the first quarter remains intact. August’s recovery also stalled at the descending trendline.

The falling 100-day exponential moving average (EMA) reinforces the weak technical picture. Meanwhile, the RSI is struggling to reclaim the 48.5 threshold monitored in this analysis. A sustained move above that level would provide additional evidence of improving momentum.

Bearish rectangle: A break below $4,075 could expose $4,000

Since late September, gold has traded sideways between approximately $4,075 and $4,264. Within the prevailing downtrend, this formation can be interpreted as a potential bearish rectangle. However, a downside breakout is needed to confirm the continuation signal.

Buyers have defended the lower boundary several times recently. A sustained break would put the psychological $4,000 level under pressure. Below that, attention would turn to the $3,927–$3,823 support zone, which was relevant in October 2025 and June 2026.

A recovery above $4,300 would improve the short-term outlook. A sustained move beyond $4,480 could then signal a breakout from the broader downtrend.
