DAX gains: Germany’s “industrial museum” finds its moment

Often dismissed as Germany’s “industrial museum”, the DAX is currently benefiting from its traditional sector mix. Its lower exposure to AI-related stocks offered some protection during the recent technology sell-off. Industrials, chemicals and carmakers may generate less excitement about the future, but that composition has proved an advantage in this market environment. Easing concerns about interest rates and the financing of AI investment are providing additional support on Friday.

DAX technical analysis: Pullback follows initial balance breakout

The Germany 40 opened above the previous day’s trading range, cleared 25,500 and extended its gains during the first hour. The five-minute chart shows the index trading around 25,593.

A relatively narrow initial balance , defined as the trading range established during the first hour, was followed by an upside breakout. The subsequent mild pullback is testing its upper boundary around 25,580. Renewed buying interest here could set up another move higher.

A sustained break above 25,600 would bring the 25,700–25,713 target area into focus. The upper 1σ Bouhmidi Band sits at 25,713.

The combination of an opening gap higher, a narrow initial balance and an upside breakout is consistent with a potential upward trend day. That scenario depends on pullbacks remaining shallow and buyers defending the breakout area.

DAX trading scenarios: Long and short setups

Scenario Confirmation Potential targets Scenario weakens if
Long: Pullback holds Price stabilises around the initial balance high near 25,580, followed by renewed upward momentum 25,600, followed by 25,700–25,713 Price moves back into the initial balance and remains there
Short: Breakout fails Price returns to the opening range, breaks below 25,500 and fails to reclaim it Initial balance low around 25,460, followed by the previous day’s trading range Price sustainably reclaims 25,500

For the broader outlook, a weekly close above 25,500 remains important. It would strengthen the breakout case and improve the technical backdrop for further gains next week.
