Bitcoin price outlook: $76,500 breakout level faces key test

Bitcoin is testing its $76,500 breakout level. A recovery remains possible while the support zone extending down to around $73,200 holds. However, buyers need to reclaim the $80,000–$84,000 area to generate fresh upside momentum.

Bitcoin traded at around $78,100 on Wednesday morning, after briefly falling to $75,645. Since September’s high of $87,259, the cryptocurrency has formed lower highs, suggesting that the recovery from its summer lows is losing momentum.

Bitcoin technical analysis: Support between $73,200 and $76,500

The first test lies between September’s low of $75,086 and the breakout level around $76,500. Below this area, the Fibonacci retracement at $73,973 and the rising 200-day moving average at $73,170 reinforce the broader support zone.

Momentum remains subdued: The 34-period RSI stands at 48.19, close to its neutral midpoint. The indicator measures the strength of price movements. A move above the 48.5 filter used in this analysis would provide additional support for a recovery.

Bitcoin price outlook: $84,000 is the next major hurdle

If support holds, attention turns to the $80,000–$84,000 resistance zone. This area combines previous lows, May’s high at $82,852 and another Fibonacci retracement at $83,933.

A confirmed breakout above this zone would strengthen the case for a move towards $87,259. Beyond that, the resistance area between $92,000 and $97,800 would come into focus.

Conversely, a daily close below $73,000 would significantly weaken the recovery outlook. The next potential support levels would lie at $65,800, followed by the $60,183–$57,874 area.

Bitcoin trading setups: Long and short scenarios

Scenario Confirmation to watch Potential price targets Invalidation
Long: Support holds Test of $76,500 followed by a daily close above it; RSI above 48.5 as an additional filter $80,000 → $82,852–$83,933 Daily close below $75,086 invalidates this short-term recovery setup
Short: Support breaks Daily close below $73,000, followed by a failed retest of $73,200–$74,000 $65,800 → $60,183 → $57,874 Daily close back above $74,000
