How can I trade with IG after Brexit

Due to Brexit, traders in the European Economic Area (EEA) can no longer hold IG accounts with IG UK companies.

We’ve established a new European entity, IG Europe, to ensure you can keep using our services after Brexit. You can open an account with IG Europe here.

If you're a trader in the EEA with an IG UK account, you will have received emails from us about what to do. If you've not transferred to IG Europe, here are your options in short. You can find out more below.

What should I do if my CFD account has not been transferred to IG Europe?

If you're an EEA trader with an IG UK account that hasn't been transferred to IG Europe, there are two things you need to do before 2.59pm (UK time) on Monday 1 February 2021:

  1. Close all position
  2. Withdraw your cash

Please close all your positions by 2.59pm (UK time) on Monday 1 February to avoid us closing them for you. We will be closing remaining open positions on your account(s) at the prevailing price at 3pm (UK time) on 1 February, or at the next available price.

To make withdrawing your cash as simple as possible, please make sure that you’ve verified your receiving bank account , and withdraw your cash in My IG before 2.59pm (UK time) on Monday 1 February. After this time, you may not be able to log into My IG and would have to phone us to withdraw.

Once positions are closed, we will close your account and terminate our relationship. Termination is given pursuant to Term 28(3) of the latest Customer Agreement that governs your account with us.

How is my money protected with IG Europe?

If you have an account with IG Europe, your money will be placed in segregated bank accounts in accordance with BaFin’s client money rules, as opposed to FCA rules relevant to UK traders.
In the UK, traders’ funds are protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. For IG Europe, your funds are protected by the EdW, which is the German equivalent.

IG Europe is based in Germany and is authorized and regulated by BaFin and Bundesbank. IGE offers a range of financial products, including CFDs, options and turbo warrants.
