Getting Started 1. Who can invest in cryptocurrency with IG? Only UK-based clients who meet IG's eligibility criteria. The eligibility is determined during the application process, which includes an assessment questionnaire. |
2. What happens if I fail the cryptocurrency knowledge quiz? You will have two attempts before having to wait 24 hours to try again. If you fail after the third attempt, you will be deemed as not suitable for this type of account. |
3. Do I need a separate app? No additional applications are required to access IG's cryptocurrency service. You can invest in cryptocurrencies using their existing IG mobile app or web platform. |

Available Cryptocurrencies & Trading 4. What cryptocurrencies are available? IG's cryptocurrency service provides access to more than 35+ digital assets. The available cryptocurrencies include:

- Ethereum (ETH)

- Cardano (ADA)
- Dogecoin (DOGE)
Plus, many more established and emerging cryptocurrencies |
5. Is investing available 24/7? Yes. Cryptocurrency investing on IG is available round the clock, seven days a week. |
6. Are there minimum investment amounts? The minimum investment amount for cryptocurrency investing on IG is £10. |

Fees & Costs 7. What are the trading fees? IG applies a 1.49% spread as a flat fee for cryptocurrency transaction. |

Account Types & Restrictions 8. Is cryptocurrency supported in ISAs or SIPPs? Cryptocurrencies cannot currently be included in Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) or Self-Invested Personal Pensions (SIPPs). Current UK regulations prevent the inclusion of cryptocurrencies in these tax-advantaged accounts. |
9. Can I withdraw cryptocurrency to another wallet? Cryptocurrencies purchased through IG cannot be transferred to external wallets. |
10. Can I transfer funds from my other IG accounts to my crypto account? No. Internal transfers between IG accounts aren't allowed. You must deposit directly into your crypto account using bank transfer or card. |

Security & Storage 11. Is my investment held in a separate wallet with my name on it by Uphold?
Yes. IG creates a separate, individual Uphold account for each user. This account is only accessible via your IG account, not directly through the Uphold app or website.

12. How secure is Uphold?
Uphold is fully reserved, meaning users’ funds are never loaned and are always available. You can view details on their Transparency page.

13. Does Uphold have insurance for clients if they get hacked?
Yes. Uphold has insurance, but in such cases, IG client funds would be the responsibility of IG.

Bank Transfer 14. Can I use bank transfers for my crypto account? Yes, if you joined IG on or after 19 May 2025. If you joined before this date, you'll need to continue using card payments. |
15. What are the deposit limits? - Minimum: £0 (no minimum)
- Maximum: £1,000,000 per transaction
- Total deposits: Unlimited
You can deposit any amount up to £1 million per transaction, with no overall deposit limit. |
16. What are the withdrawal limits? - Daily limit: £25,000
- Requirement: You must deposit from a bank account before you can withdraw to it
The £25,000 limit resets every 24 hours. |
17. How do I make a bank deposit? - Log in to My IG
- Go to the Crypto section
- Click 'Add funds'
- Select 'Bank transfer'
- Follow the instructions in the payment widget
Important: You must use the payment widget in the Crypto section. Don't use deposit details from other IG accounts. |
18. Can I withdraw to any bank account? No. You can only withdraw to bank accounts you've deposited from. Make at least one deposit from your bank account first to enable withdrawals. |
19. Are these limits the same as card limits?
No. Bank transfer limits are completely separate from card payment limits. The two systems are handled independently and cannot be used interchangeably. |
20. Can I transfer funds from my other IG accounts to my crypto account? No. Internal transfers between IG accounts aren't allowed. You must deposit directly into your crypto account using bank transfer or card. |
21. Do I need to verify each bank account separately? Yes. Make one deposit from each bank account you want to use. After that first deposit, the account is verified for all future deposits and withdrawals. |
22. Can I use a business bank account? No. Only personal bank accounts in your name are accepted. Business and corporate accounts can't be used. |
23. What reference number should I use? Use the exact reference shown in the payment widget. Don't change anything - copy it exactly as shown. Wrong references cause delays.

24. How quickly can I withdraw after making my first deposit? As soon as your first deposit arrives, you can withdraw to that bank account. There's no waiting period after verification. |
25. Is there a limit on how many bank accounts I can verify? No. You can verify as many personal bank accounts as you want. Each must be in your name and verified with one deposit. |
26. What should I do if my deposit is taking longer than 2 hours? Most deposits arrive within 2 hours. If yours hasn't: - Check you used the Crypto payment widget
- Verify the reference is correct
- Confirm with your bank it was sent
- Contact IG support with:
- Payment reference
- Time of transfer
- Amount sent

27. What happens if I use deposit details from my other IG accounts? Your deposit won't reach your crypto account. Always use the payment widget in the Crypto section of My IG. |
