What Currency Considerations Should I Keep in Mind?

  • GBP-Only: Currently, IG Crypto accounts only support British Pounds (GBP)
  • Currency Conversion Fees: If you're using non-GBP sources to fund your account, currency exchange fees may apply
  • Exchange Rate Risk: For example, stablecoins pegged to USD expose you to GBP/USD exchange rate fluctuations, affecting your returns when converting back to pounds

What Are the Limitations of an IG Crypto Account?

  • No Internal Fund Transfers: Internal fund transfers from other IG accounts (such as IG Share dealing account) are not permitted to IG Crypto accounts
  • No Digital Asset In/Out Transfers: Cryptocurrency must remain within the IG platform - external transfers are not supported
  • Crypto Payment Widget Required: The deposit process is different from other IG accounts. Always use the payment section within your crypto account
  • Bank Account Restrictions:
  1. You must deposit from a bank account before you can withdraw to it
  2. You can only withdraw to bank accounts you've previously deposited from
  3. The bank account must be a personal UK account registered in your name — business accounts are not accepted.
  • Verification Requirements: All payment methods must be verified before withdrawals can be processed. This helps ensure the security of your funds and complies with regulatory requirements
