What Payment Methods Can I Use My Cryptocurrency Account?
IG offers two payment methods for funding your cryptocurrency account:
1. Bank Transfers
New clients who joined IG after 19 May 2025 can now use bank transfers to fund their crypto accounts via Faster Payments Service (FPS). This payment method offers:
- No minimum deposit - start with any amount
- Higher limits - up to £1,000,000 per transaction
- Fewer rejections - unlike some card issuers
Eligibility Requirements:
- Joined IG on or after 19 May 2025
- Have a UK bank account with FPS
- Completed your crypto account setup
Note: Existing clients may continue using card payments to deposit. Bank transfer functionality will be rolled out to all clients later in the year. |
2. Credit and Debit Cards (All Clients)
Currently, only GBP credit and debit cards are accepted for funding.

Bank deposits to cryptocurrency accounts must be completed through the payment widget on the Crypto section of My IG. This requirement applies to all bank transfers via Faster Payments Service (FPS) for eligible clients who joined IG since May 19th 2025.

What Currency Considerations Should I Keep in Mind?
- GBP-Only: Currently, IG Crypto accounts only support British Pounds (GBP)
- Currency Conversion Fees: If you're using non-GBP sources to fund your account, currency exchange fees may apply
- Exchange Rate Risk: For example, stablecoins pegged to USD expose you to GBP/USD exchange rate fluctuations, affecting your returns when converting back to pounds
What Are the Limitations of an IG Crypto Account?
- No Internal Fund Transfers: Internal fund transfers from other IG accounts (such as IG Share dealing account) are not permitted to IG Crypto accounts
- No Digital Asset In/Out Transfers: Cryptocurrency must remain within the IG platform - external transfers are not supported
- Crypto Payment Widget Required: The deposit process is different from other IG accounts. Always use the payment section within your crypto account
- Bank Account Restrictions:
- You must deposit from a bank account before you can withdraw to it
- You can only withdraw to bank accounts you've previously deposited from
- The bank account must be a personal UK account registered in your name — business accounts are not accepted.
- Verification Requirements: All payment methods must be verified before withdrawals can be processed. This helps ensure the security of your funds and complies with regulatory requirements
