Over the next few months, we’ll be adding the rest of our products and features to the platform – including options, technical indicator alerts and our full range of digital 100s – as well as a whole host of new ones. And, of course, we’ll be listening to you every step of the way.

Switching platforms

How does the new platform differ from our classic platform?

Our new platform is even quicker and more reliable than our classic web platform, with an easier-to-use, more configurable interface.

However, the new platform is initially limited to spread betting on indices, forex, shares and commodities, along with five minute digital 100s. Over the course of 2017, we’ll be adding CFDs, share dealing and more to IG Trading. In the meantime, they are available as normal on our classic web platform and mobile apps.

What will happen to my watchlists, working orders and open positions?

We’ve made the transition from one platform to the other as seamless as possible, so any orders and positions will have automatically carried across.

We’ve also carried over watchlists you’ve previously created on the classic platform. You’ll find them all under the ‘watchlists’ tab in the left-hand fly-out menu. 

How do I get to My IG from the new platform?

To access the My IG dashboard from the new platform, simply click on the name of your account in the top navigation bar and select ‘My IG’. You’ll need to go to My IG to fund your account, as well as to amend your details and view your deal history.

Are there guides available to help me?

We’ve put together a number of platform guides to show you how to get the most out of the new platform – everything from placing your first spread bet, to trading on charts, to getting to grips with our range of unique features.

How do I provide feedback on the new platform?

We want to hear your thoughts on IG Trading, and the quickest way to send them is via the help and feedback button. Click on the speech bubble in the top navigation bar, write us a message in the box and click submit.

You can also let us know what you think via our client forum, IG Community, accessible via the same button. Simply log in – or take a moment to register as a member – and discuss your experiences with other spread bettors using the new platform for the first time. 

Where can I find...

Where can I find options?

Options are currently unavailable in the new platform, but we’ll be adding them soon. 

In the meantime, all our options are available as normal on our mobile app, and on our classic web platform. Our classic platform is accessible to spread betting clients who set up their account before January 2017, and to clients with a CFD account. 

You can add a CFD account in seconds under the ‘live accounts’ tab in My IG.

Where can I find your full range of digital 100s?

Our new platform currently only offers five minute digital 100s, but we’ll be adding the full range of types and timescales by the end of May.

In the meantime, all our digital 100s are available as normal on our mobile app, and on our classic web platform. Our classic platform is accessible to spread betting clients who set up their account before January 2017, and to clients with a CFD account. 

You can add a CFD account in next to no time under the ‘live accounts’ tab in My IG.

Where can I find sprint markets?

Please note, we will not be making sprint markets available in the new platform. You can continue to access sprints as normal using our apps or classic web platform.

Where can I find indicator alerts?

We’re creating enhanced indicator alerts especially for our platform’s improved interface and functionality. They’ll be available soon.

In the meantime, indicator alerts are available as normal on our mobile app, and on our classic web platform. Our classic platform is accessible to spread betting clients who set up their account before January 2017, and to clients with a CFD account. 

You can add a CFD account in next to no time under the ‘live accounts’ tab in My IG. 

Using the new platform

Can I use the platform with my demo account?

Yes. Just go to the dashboard in My IG and select the ‘open new platform’ button next to your demo account.

If you don’t have a demo spread betting account already set up, it only takes a moment to add one in My IG. Just go to the ‘demo accounts’ tab and select ‘create demo account’.

How do I add a demo account?

Log in to My IG and go to ‘demo accounts’. Click ‘create demo account’ to get set up.

Access the demo platform via your dashboard. You’ll have £10,000 of virtual money to practise with, as well as an opportunity to explore our new platform. 

Is the new platform available across all devices?

No, this is our new platform for trading on the web. For the best mobile spread betting experience, you should continue to use the IG Trading app on your device.

Where can I find out more about the new platform?

Our new platform is designed to provide an entirely intuitive experience, and the best way to learn is by trying it out for yourself. But it’s also worth checking back here to our dedicated website, which will be updated regularly with video guides and the latest developments.

You can also share your experiences of the new platform in a discussion thread on the IG Community forum, where our trading services team will be on hand to field any questions, and other spread bettors can offer the benefit of their own experience.

Is there a dark platform theme available?

Yes, you have a choice between a light and a dark theme. You can select which one you’d prefer to use in ‘settings’. 

Where can I find quarterly markets?

Find your way to the relevant market using the fly-out menu on the left. For markets which offer both cash (daily funded bet) and futures/forward bets, we initially list their cash price. This means the price you first see is the closest available to its underlying price.

Click on a market to bring up the chart. In the top left-hand corner, you'll see a 'futures/forward' dropdown immediately above the market name. Clicking on this reveals all the available expiries. Select which one you want to bet on, and add it to a watchlist and/or workspace for quicker access next time.

Understanding the basics

How do I log in to the new platform? 

Sign in via IG.com as normal, go to your dashboard in My IG and click on the ‘open new platform’ button next to your chosen spread betting account. Each time you log in, just follow these steps to return to the new platform.

How do I log out of the new platform? 

Click on the account name in the top navigation bar and select ‘log out’. All of your settings and workspaces are automatically saved, so they’ll be exactly as you left them when you come back later.

How do I place a deal?

When you click on the name of a market, its chart and deal ticket will appear side by side. If the deal ticket is hidden, you can reveal it by clicking on the ‘deal’ button in the top-right corner of the chart.

Once you’ve entered your deal size and selected a market direction, the ‘place deal’ button will light up green, meaning you’re ready to place your deal. Don’t forget to set your required stop and limit distances. 

You’ll receive a note of confirmation once you’ve placed your trade.

How do I place an order?

Click on the ‘order’ button in the relevant deal ticket, and choose your bet size, direction, price level and expiry time.

The ‘place order’ button will light up green, and you’ll receive a notification once you’ve placed it.

How do I close an open position?

You can view all your open positions by clicking on ‘positions’ in the fly-out menu on the left. 

By clicking ‘close’ next to the position you want to close out, or ‘close all’ next to multiple positions in the same market, you’ll confirm your potential profit or loss, and see the amount per point required to close your position. 

Click on the ‘buy’ or ‘sell’ button that appears, and you’ll receive a notification confirming your position is now closed.

Are there plans for a deal ticket-only view?

Yes, we'll be adding an option that enables you to open a deal ticket separate from the chart in early February. You'll also be able to open multiple deal tickets at once, for more flexibility in your dealing. 

Charts

How do I view market data on a chart?

To view a market’s high, low, open and close, right-click on a chart, click ‘show’ and then ‘data’. The data displayed reflects your chosen timeframe.

The ‘price changes’ data in the bottom left of a chart summarises the chart as a whole. You can amend the time period you see using the ‘overview’ bar.

Display the ‘overview’ bar by right-clicking on the chart, then selecting ‘show’ and ‘overview’. You can now amend the time period with your cursor, and each time you do, the data at the bottom of the chart updates automatically.

How do I customise charts?

Right-click on a chart and go to ‘types’.

Alter the style of your chart, with a choice of candlestick, line, HLOC and mountain. You’ll also see an option to ‘customise’, which will bring up a panel where you can change the format and colours.

How do I show news events and economic information in-chart?

Right-click on a chart and go to ‘events’, where you’ll find a range of different regions and event types.

Once you’ve selected which events you want to show, calendar icons appear along the bottom of the chart marking past and future release dates. Click on these icons to view the event’s previous, estimated and, if available, actual figures.

How do I edit stops and limits on a chart?

When you select an open position on a chart, a stop and limit button appears. Drag it to the desired level and click ‘submit’ when prompted to submit your amendment.

You’ll receive a notification at the bottom of your chart to confirm it’s gone through. 

Can I tear off charts and tickets into a new window?

Yes, simply click on the market name above a chart – or right-click on a market in a list – and select ‘open in new window’ in the dropdown.

How do I customise technical indicators?

When you add a technical indicator to a chart, its current parameters appear in one corner.

Click on these parameters to bring up a panel, where you can edit the figures to suit your preferences, or reset them to their defaults. From here, you can also change the style and colour of your indicators.

Tools and features

How do I launch ProRealTime?

To launch ProRealTime, you first need to activate it:

  1. Log in to My IG. 
  2. Under ‘settings’, select ‘ProRealTime’.
  3. Take a moment to read our client agreement and costs details.
  4. Click ‘activate ProRealTime for live accounts’.

You can now launch ProRealTime via the new platform: simply click on the market name above a chart – or right-click on a market in a list – and select ‘open in ProRealTime’ in the dropdown. 

How do I hide the Twitter and notifications feed?

Click the menu icon in the top right of the platform to toggle the feed on and off. 

How does a price change alert differ from a price level alert?

Price level alerts inform you when the market reaches a predefined price level. Price change alerts let you know when the market moves by a chosen amount, in terms of either a percentage change or a number of points.

You also won’t need to reset your price change alerts. We’ll automatically do it for you, until you choose to cancel it manually under ‘alerts’ in the fly-out menu. Price level alerts, on the other hand, only trigger once.

How do I enable signals?

Go to ‘signals’ in the fly-out menu on the left. You’ll see a list of markets with a buy or sell rating, along with the third party providing the signal, when it was published and how long it will last.

Click one of these signals and an agreement will pop up. Take a moment to read through and, when you’re happy, click ‘I accept’. You’ll now be able to view each signal’s parameters in more detail beneath the market’s chart, as well as replicate them in an order by selecting ‘copy to order’.

Building your workspace

How do I create a new workspace?

You’ll see your first workspace as soon as you first log in to the new platform. But you can add as many new ones as you like, helping you to prepare for specific events and markets.

To add a new workspace, click on the plus sign next to existing workspaces at the top of the platform. Add watchlists, markets, open positions, working orders and other panels to your new workspace by clicking the relevant ‘add to workspace’ button.

How do I create a watchlist?

Select ‘watchlists’ from the fly-out menu on the left. Click the ‘create watchlist’ button, type in a name and hit enter. You can then right-click on a market name to add it to your new watchlist.

Is it possible to reorder watchlists?

We’ll be introducing enhanced watchlist functionality soon. You’ll be able to rearrange your list according to particular data in February, and drag and drop markets into an order of your choosing by the end of March.

How do I save a layout?

You won’t need to; the new platform automatically remembers any modifications to your layouts and settings, and saves them for next time. 

Managing your account

Where can I see my available funds?

Click the ‘balances’ drop-down in the top navigation bar. You’ll see a checklist of balances, including total funds, profit/loss, available and more.

Select which figures you want to keep in display across the navigation bar. 

Where can I see the required margin to open a position on a product?

You’ll find key deal information, such as the margin required for a bet and your available balance, at the bottom of every deal ticket.

How do I deposit funds?

You can fund your account by going to My IG, accessible via the account selector drop-down in the top navigation bar. We’ve put together a quick guide to help you.

How do I view my transaction history?

To view transaction statements – and to amend your details, view balances and more – go to the My IG dashboard and click on the relevant account name.

You’ll see an overview of your balances, as well as a summary of your recent activity. You’ll also be able to deposit or withdraw funds, amend your bank details and much more. 

Changing your deal settings

How do deal settings work?

In the new IG Trading platform, there’s no need to re-enter your deal settings every time. Tell us once, and we’ll remember your preferences for next time. Simply click on ‘settings’ on the menu and check the options that suit you. You can make the platform:

  • Remember your last deal size or stop distance, per market
  • Control how we execute opposing positions on the same market. We recommend netting off, but you can change your default setting to force open.
  • Accept partial fills, points through current and market orders

You can also choose to change and save price and fill settings on the deal ticket.

If you use a different browser or computer, you may need to refresh for any changes in settings made elsewhere to take effect, but you shouldn't need to re-enter them from scratch.

How do I force open?

Force open allows you to hold multiple positions in opposite directions on the same market simultaneously. If you don’t select ‘force open’, opposing positions will by default ‘net off’ (our recommended option), which may close your original position.

To enable the force open option, go to the ‘settings’ menu and turn on ‘show Force Open in ticket’. You’ll then be able to specify if you’d like a position to force open at the point of confirming the deal. You can also choose to make ‘force open’ your default.

How do I switch on data feeds for Australia and Toronto?

Go to My IG and click on ‘settings’. Click on the ‘spread bet’ tab and activate the relevant data feed.
