Network Selection

Crypto transfers are executed on the blockchain and are irreversible once confirmed. IG cannot cancel, reverse, or recover a transfer where incorrect details have been provided.

You are responsible for ensuring all transfer details are accurate, including the wallet address, network, token, and any required destination tag or memo. Sending assets using incorrect details will result in permanent loss of funds.

Transfers are typically completed within 10–50 minutes but may take longer depending on blockchain network conditions. Delays due to network congestion are outside of IG’s control.

Before initiating a transfer, ensure you understand how crypto transfers work, including the risks associated with on-chain transactions.

When you send or receive cryptocurrency, you must select the correct blockchain network. Choosing the wrong network is one of the most common causes of lost funds in crypto transfers — and in many cases, it cannot be reversed.

If you are unsure whether a token is currently supported, check the Which Cryptocurrencies Are Supported for Transfers article or contact our support team via Chat or WhatsApp.

What is a blockchain network?

A blockchain network is the underlying infrastructure that a cryptocurrency runs on. It is the system that processes and records every transaction involving that token.

Why does network selection matter?

When you initiate a crypto transfer, both the sending platform and the receiving platform must support the same network for the transaction to complete successfully.

If you send a token on a network that the receiving wallet does not support:

  • The funds may not be credited to your account
  • The transaction may appear successful on the blockchain, but the receiving platform cannot process it
  • Recovery may not be possible in all cases

Always confirm the network with your destination wallet or exchange before sending.
Do not assume two wallets support the same networks just because they hold the same token.

How do I select the correct network on IG?

Our current model automatically selects the relevant default network for you on IG — this is displayed to you during the deposit address generation step. Always ensure the network shown on IG matches the one you use on your external wallet or exchange.

Important: The network shown on IG must exactly match the network you use on your external wallet or exchange when sending. Sending on the wrong network will result in permanent loss of funds.

How do I find the correct network on my external wallet or exchange?

The steps vary by platform, but in general:

  • When sending: look for a "Network" or "Chain" option when initiating a send on your external platform. Select the network that matches what IG has generated your deposit address for.

  • When receiving: check which networks your external wallet supports for the token you are transferring.

If you are unsure which network to use, check the help documentation for your external wallet or exchange, or contact their support team before sending.

What happens if I select the wrong network?

If a transfer is sent on a network that IG does not support, or that does not match the deposit address provided, the funds may not be credited. Our ability to recover funds depends on how and where the transfer was routed.

If this happens, contact our support team immediately with:

  • The token and network used
  • The sending wallet address
  • The transaction ID or hash from your sending wallet
  • The approximate time the transfer was sent
