Crypto transfers are executed on the blockchain and are irreversible once confirmed. IG cannot cancel, reverse, or recover a transfer where incorrect details have been provided. You are responsible for ensuring all transfer details are accurate, including the wallet address, network, token, and any required destination tag or memo. Sending assets using incorrect details will result in permanent loss of funds.
Transfers are typically completed within 10–50 minutes but may take longer depending on blockchain network conditions. Delays due to network congestion are outside of IG’s control. Before initiating a transfer, ensure you understand how crypto transfers work, including the risks associated with on-chain transactions. |
You can withdraw cryptocurrency from your IG Crypto account to an external wallet or exchange via a blockchain transfer. Transfer Out is available on the IG web trading platform (desktop) at launch. Mobile availability is planned for a future release.
Key concepts
Term | What it means |
Destination address | The wallet address you want to send your cryptocurrency to. Must be valid for the selected token and network. |
Network | The blockchain network you are sending on. At launch, each token uses a single default network which is applied automatically — you do not need to select one. Multi-network support is planned for a future release. |
Destination tag / Memo | An additional reference code required by some tokens (e.g. XRP, XLM). Missing this may cause funds to be lost or delayed. |
Self-hosted wallet | A wallet you control directly (e.g. MetaMask, Ledger, Trezor). Requires active ownership verification before a withdrawal can be processed. |
Hosted account (VASP) | A wallet held at a regulated exchange or custodian (e.g. Kraken, Uphold, CoinJar, Bitstamp). Ownership verification and Travel Rule data exchange happen automatically in the background — no action required from you. |
Wallet ownership verification | A regulatory requirement to confirm you control the destination wallet before funds are released. The experience differs between self-hosted wallets and hosted accounts. |
Fees
Fee type | Amount |
IG transfer fee | None |
Network fee | None in most cases. If applicable, the amount will be shown before you confirm. |
IG does not charge a network fee for Transfer Out — the full amount you send will be received. In rare cases a small network cost may apply and will be shown before you confirm.
Before you start
To use Transfer Out, your IG Crypto account must be active, your identity verification must be up to date, two-factor authentication (2FA) must be enabled on your account, and you must have sufficient balance in the token you wish to withdraw.
Transfer Out is initiated by clicking ‘Send’ below the chart on the IG web trading platform. If the ‘Send’ option is not visible, your account may not currently be eligible for Transfer Out — eligibility checks run silently in the background. Please contact our support team if you believe this is in error.
Transfers cannot be reversed. Once a Transfer Out is broadcast to the blockchain, it cannot be recalled. There is no cancel option — always double-check all details before confirming. |
Step 1 — Select token and network
Step 1 — Select token and network
Log in to your IG account
Go to your crypto account
Select the cryptocurrency you wish to transfer from your Portfolio or Cryptocurrencies list on the left pane
Click ‘Send’ below the chart
At launch, each token uses a single default network which is applied automatically — you do not need to select a network. Multi-network support is planned for a future release.
Important: Always ensure the network IG applies for your Transfer Out is supported by your destination wallet or exchange before confirming. |
Step 2 — Enter your destination address
Step 2 — Enter your destination address
Enter or paste the wallet address you want to send your cryptocurrency to. The system will validate the address format for the selected token and network.
You can only transfer to a wallet that you personally own and control — transfers to wallets belonging to other people are not permitted.
Previously used addresses will be visible in the Send widget screen, though without provider name or custom label. Full address saving functionality with custom names and provider details is planned for a future release.
Transfers cannot be reversed once confirmed — check the destination address carefully before proceeding. If you are unsure, send a small test transaction first.
Note: Some tokens (such as XRP and XLM) require a destination tag or memo alongside the address. Where required, you will be prompted to enter this. A missing destination tag may cause your funds to be lost or delayed. |
Step 3 — Verify you own the destination wallet
Step 3 — Verify you own the destination wallet
Before your withdrawal can be processed, you’ll need to complete a verification step to confirm you control the destination wallet. This is a regulatory requirement. The experience differs depending on whether you are sending to a hosted account or a self-hosted wallet.
Hosted account (VASP) — e.g. Kraken, Uphold, CoinJar, Bitstamp:
You will be asked to search for and identify your exchange from a list in the platform
Ownership verification and Travel Rule data exchange happen automatically in the background
No active verification step is required from you — the experience is seamless
If your destination exchange cannot be found in the list, your transfer will be auto-declined and your assets will remain safely held in your IG account. In rare edge cases this may be subject to a manual review, which can take up to 5 business days.
Self-hosted wallet — e.g. Ledger, MetaMask, Trezor:
You will be prompted to connect your wallet and confirm ownership
The currently supported connection methods are:
Mobile wallets — connect via QR code scan (WalletConnect)
Ledger — connect via USB or Bluetooth
Trezor — connect via USB
Connect another device — fallback option for other supported devices
No funds are moved during the verification step
Follow the step-by-step instructions shown in the platform for your chosen method
Step 4 — Enter withdrawal amount
Step 4 — Enter withdrawal amount
Enter the amount you wish to withdraw in either:
Crypto units (e.g. 0.5 ETH)
GBP equivalent (e.g. £1,000)
Your withdrawal amount cannot exceed your available balance. A daily withdrawal limit of £10,000 across all assets applies to Transfer Out. This limit resets at midnight each day and will be displayed during the transfer flow.
Step 5 — Review and confirm
Step 5 — Review and confirm
Carefully review all withdrawal details before confirming:

Destination wallet address
Withdrawal amount
Estimated network fee (final amount may differ slightly)
Estimated arrival time
Select ‘Confirm’ to submit your withdrawal.
Step 6 — Track your withdrawal
Step 6 — Track your withdrawal
Track the status of your withdrawal in Notifications in the right hand pane on the web trading platform.
You will also receive email updates as your withdrawal progresses. Transfers are usually completed within 10–50 minutes. On completion, the following details will be available:
Blockchain transaction hash (with link to block explorer)
Final amount sent
Timestamp
Your completed Transfer Out will also appear in your daily statement.
If your transfer is not showing in IG after 50 minutes, see Troubleshooting Crypto Transfers or contact our support team via Chat or WhatsApp.
