Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 42 points at 14,932, the NASDAQ finished one point weaker at 3433 and the S&P 500 also closed one point lower at 1614.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down by 88 points at 6215.

FX and commoditiesGBP/USD is 20 pips lower $1.5136, EUR/USD is down 27 pips at $1.2947 and USD/JPY is 25 pips weaker at Y100.35. Brent crude is up 72 cents at $104.65 and gold is trading down $5 at $1239.

Stocks: Tullow Oil has confirmed it is making progress in its Kenyan operation.

The day ahead: In Europe, UK services PMI is out at 9.30am, followed by eurozone retail sales at 10am. In the US, the ADP employment change is due at 1.15pm, followed by jobless claims and trade balance at 1.30pm. ISM non-manufacturing PMI is scheduled for 3pm (all London times).
