Friday night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down two at 17,083, the NASDAQ finished down three points at 3983 and the S&P 500 ended the day up one point at 1987.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 10 point at 6811.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down six points at $1.6980, EUR/USD is up one point at $1.3465 and USD/JPY is up one point at ¥101.83. Brent crude is up 12 cents at $107.19 and gold is trading at $1293, down $0.5.

Stocks: Anglo American posted a 10% decline in first-half profits. Vodafone revealed a 4.4% drop in first-quarter revenue. RBS stated it expects first-half pre-tax profits to rise by 93%. BSkyB is to buy a stake in Italian and Germany pay-TV companies for £4.9 billion. Cable & Wireless stated that organic revenue was unchanged in the first quarter. African Barrick Gold swings to profits in the first half of 2014. Pearson reported a 41% decline in first-half profits. AG Barr announced a 5.6% rise in six month sales.

The day ahead: UK preliminary GDP is due out at 9.30am. In the US, durable goods are due out at 1.30pm.
