This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down two points at 6508.
FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up three pips at $1.6385, EUR/USD is up 20 pips at $1.3613 and USD/JPY is down 43 pips at ¥101.89. Brent crude is up 14 cents at $97.30 and gold is trading at $1234, down $9.20.
Stocks: Fast-moving consumer goods provider Unilever is holding an investor seminar this morning ahead of its figures which will be reported next month.
The day ahead: Today is all about macro-economic issues, and George Osborne will be producing his autumn forecast statement. At midday we are also due to hear the official Bank of England interest-rate decision and any update on the government’s asset-purchasing scheme. Later in the afternoon we will have US unemployment claims and preliminary GDP figures, followed by monthly factory orders.
