Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down seven points at 15,002, the NASDAQ finished up 24 points at 3613 and the S&P 500 closed up six points at 1652.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 44 points at 6419.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down seven pips at $1.5661, EUR/USD is down 23 pips at $1.3393 and USD/JPY is up 19 pips at Y97.46. Olie - Brent Crude is down 59 cents at $109.52 and gold  is trading at $1364, down $6.

Stocks: Lloyds Banking Group is to sell its German life insurance business at a loss of £330 million. Hikma Pharmaceuticals reported a 19% increase in half-yearly revenue.

The day ahead: In Europe, UK public sector net borrowing is due out at 9.30am, followed by UK CBI industrial order expectations at 11am.

In the US, existing home sales are due out at 3pm, followed by the Federal Reserve minutes at 7pm. (All times are London time.)
