What is an international account and how do I get one?
To trade global markets you’ll need to open an international account, a requirement by the South African Reserve Bank.
To get an IG international account, you just need to fill out our application form for a live account. You’ll automatically be given both a domestic and international account, but it’s completely up to you whether to fund just one or both.

Now go to ‘deposit funds’ to make your payment

FAQs
Why do I get two accounts?
Having two accounts ensures you can access both local and offshore markets. You’ll get both a domestic and international account with IG when you apply, but it’s up to you whether you choose to fund just one or both.
Do I get two demo accounts?
Yes, you’ll get a demo account to accompany both your domestic and international accounts.
How much is my funding limit?
Your funding limit will vary depending on your chosen method.
- Card payments over the phone have a funding limit of R20,000 per day
- Card payments on the platform have no funding limit
- Bank transfers have no funding limit – we recommend this for larger amounts
You can deposit a minimum of R4000 – or the equivalent in different currencies – if funding your international account. The minimum deposit is displayed on the payments screen when you attempt to process a payment.
