Reapplying for an IG account
If you closed your IG account and want to return to IG, you'll need to submit a new application to trade with us again. You cannot reactivate a closed account. Most returning clients find the process quick and straightforward.
How do I reapply?
Simply submit a new client application through the IG application form. Make sure your personal details, finance, and experience information are accurate and up to date at the time of applying. This typically takes just 5 minutes to complete.
I only closed my account recently. Do I still need to reapply?
Yes. All clients with fully closed accounts need to submit a new application, regardless of how recently the account was closed.
What happened to my old account?
Your old account was closed permanently. Your new account will have a different account number and new login credentials - it's treated as a completely fresh account in our system.
Does any previous account history carry over?
No, you're treated as a new client - therefore, a clean slate. No trading history, settings, or account activity carries over to the new account.
Do I need to verify my identity again?
Yes. Because a new application is treated as a fresh account, identity verification is required as part of the process. This isn't about your previous verification expiring - it's simply a required step for any new application. Most clients complete this automatically without needing to upload any documents.
How long does a new application take?
Many applications are approved quickly, with some completing instantly. The exact timeframe depends on how complete and accurate your application is, and whether additional verification is required. If anything is missing, you'll be contacted to provide further details.
